Did the prophets speak
better than they knew?
A fuller answer will be posted soon. As a pause for thought, we'd
ask 'whatever has happened to authorial intent in understanding the
Bible's meaning?' Our position is simply that the prophets meant
what they said. This has never been a contentious point (why
would it be?) until quite recently in Biblical studies.
The Scriptures themselves tell us that the prophets looked
forwards to what they prophesied (even if they didn't know the exact time
and circumstances) - see 1 Pet 1:10-12; Acts 2:25-31; John 12:40-41.
